Frequently Asked Questions

The hotels are very accommodating and deal with weddings on a daily basis. Should you have any questions or ideas for your wedding that we have not covered here, please feel free to send them to us so that we can ensure that your day is special and a memorable one.

Is my wedding a legal wedding?

Yes. You will need to take your marriage certificate to home affairs upon your return so that it can be registered in South Africa.

Can I choose what religion to get married into?

The weddings in Mauritius are not religious ceremonies. You will be married by a Civil status officer.

Where will my wedding take place?

Once you arrive in Mauritius, the wedding coordinator will take to the various places where the guests have choose to have their ceremony. Should you choose to get married on the beach, please bear in mind that the hotel can’t stop other residents from the hotel looking and taking photos of the ceremony.

Can I choose my cake and flowers before I go to Mauritius?

This is normally arranged once you arrive in Mauritius however should you have anything in mind, please send us a picture to forward to the hotel so that we can see if they are able to assist and/or if there is an additional cost.

What happens if it rains?

Alternative arrangements will be made. Each hotel has various options of venues to get married at with some being under cover.

Does the bride get an extra room to change in on the wedding day?

This all depends on availability at the hotel.

What time will my wedding take place?

This all depends on when the Civil Status officer can get to the hotel. It is normally anytime from 2 – 4pm.

Can you organise a Jewish wedding?

Yes, Sugar Beach Resort seems to be most accommodating. The owner of Sugar Beach is a friend with Rabbi Silberhaft in Johannesburg.  Guests can bring Kosher food and the hotel will prepare it for them.

Can we let doves go during the ceremony?

Le Touessrok will allow you to let white pigeons go. They need to know in advance.

Can we take selected items only from the standard wedding package?

You can but it is more cost effective to take the whole package.

Decorating the Gazebo or Arch with flowers

This can be done however it is at a supplement. They would need to know in advance so that the wedding coordinators can pre-order the flowers.

Reception Dinners

The hotel needs to know in advance how many guests will be joining you for dinner and if the guests are residents at the hotel or not. These dinners can either take place in a restaurant (where your party will have their own section of the restaurant) or sometimes on the beach, depending on the size of the group. They generally have a set menu for the dinners, either a seafood dinner or other depending on the requirements of the guests. (This can be arranged with the wedding coordinator once in Mauritius). Should guest wish for a bonfire on the beach, this can be arranged however it will be at a supplement.

Can we bring our own drinks?

Yes you may however a corkage fee will be charged.

What music will be played at the ceremony?

It is recommended that you bring a CD with your choice of music and the wedding coordinator will organise a CD player for the music to be played.
